Syracuse Mets News Release

Durham, NC - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the second game of the three-game series to the Durham Bulls, 4-2, Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Allan Dykstra hit a two-run double in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Bulls to a second straight win to start the series. Paolo Espino threw six and two-third innings of two-run ball in a no-decision for the Chiefs.

Durham (28-23) started the scoring right away. Ryan Brett drilled the second pitch from Espino over the Blue Monster in left field to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead. Four innings later, Richie Shaffer knocked one over the Monster for a second solo home run, giving Durham a 2-0 advantage.

Syracuse (17-32) clawed it's way back in the sixth. Darin Mastroianni reached on an error by Shaffer at third to start the rally with one out. Matt den Dekker and Emmanuel Burriss each followed with singles to load the bases. Bulls reliever Jose Domingez then walked Mark Minicozzi to bring in the Chiefs' first run.

An inning later, the Chiefs found another run via a walk. Cutter Dykstra and Mastroianni each singled with two outs. After a pitching change, Jhan Marinez hit den Dekker to load the bases. And much like the previous inning, Marinez walked Emmanuel Burriss to bring in another run, tying the game at two. Of the first eight runs of the series, four were scored on bases-loaded walks.

Durham broke the tie in the eighth. Brett and Taylor Motter singled with one out off Erik Davis. After a strikeout, Dykstra launched a double to deep left-center field, scoring both runners to bring the score to 4-2 Bulls.

Syracuse tries to salvage the final game of the series Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The Chiefs starter is still to be announced. Durham will counter with Matt Andriese.
