Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, PA - A four-game winning streak for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) was washed away by the Norfolk Tides and Mother Nature in a 6-1 loss on Saturday night at PNC Field. Heavy, frequent showers forced the game to end with no outs in the top of the seventh. The RailRiders (26-24) finish the season series with the Tides (28-22) on Sunday.

Jaron Long (3-4) shouldered the defeat after surrendering a career-worst 11 hits and five runs. T.J. McFarland (2-2) hurled five innings in the win for Norfolk. He limited SWB to a run on five hits.

The Tides took advantage of an error to plate their first run of the series in the opening frame. With two out, Ben Gamel dropped a routine fly to left that allowed Chris Parmelee to reach. Nolan Reimold and Dariel Alvarez connected on consecutive singles to score Parmelee.

Norfolk strung together three straight two-out hits in the third inning to bring in Henry Urrutia. The designated hitter reached on a single to open the frame. Urrutia pushed the advantage to 5-0 Tides on a three-run homer to left-center, just over the 371 marker.

Rob Refsnyder set the table for the RailRiders' only tally by drawing a leadoff walk in the last of the fourth. Kyle Roller chopped an infield single up the middle. Second baseman Rey Navarro gloved the slow hop, but his throw to first was wild. Refsnyder moved to third on the play and scored on Austin Romine's single to left.

Parmelee launched a towering homer to right off reliever Diego Moreno just as the skies opened up in the top of the seventh.

Refsnyder reached three times with a single and two walks. Romine notched two hits and an RBI. Chris Martin hurled a scoreless inning in his Major League rehab appearance with SWB.

Game three of the series will be a rubber match on Sunday. The RailRiders can take the series and salvage a season split against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles) with a win. Luis Severino, the Yankees' unanimous No. 1 prospect, will make his Triple-A debut with SWB. The Tides counter with RHP Zach Davies (2-3, 2.93).
