Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

DOMINANT DAY: The RailRiders authored a dominant team victory in a 7-0 triumph over the Norfolk Tides at PNC Field last night. SWB has won four in a row while the Tides saw their four-game winning streak come to a close.

CAREER EFFORT: Starter Bryan Mitchell (3-4) fired a career-best eight frames on just 79 pitches (52 strikes). He faced two over the minimum while whiffing four and walking just one. He gave up the game's only two hits, both singles.

BRYAN'S SONG: Over his last three starts, Mitchell has allowed just three earned runs for a 1.42 ERA. Two of the starts have resulted in team shutout wins. This run, punctuated by his career-long outing, comes on the heels of his shortest career start. The power arm recorded just one out when he faced the Tides at Norfolk on May 11. The first seven batters reached against him at Harbor Park that day (six hits/one walk). In seven starts at PNC Field, Mitchell has gone 2-3 despite a 1.83 ERA and .201 batting average against. In three road starts, he owns a 1-1 record with a 7.94 ERA and a .298 opposing contact clip.

DONUT DITTIES: Last night marked the RailRiders' fifth shutout of the season and fourth in 12 games. It was also the first shutout suffered by Norfolk in 2015. The Tides entered the game as one of MiLB's five squads that had yet to suffer a blanking. SWB has the IL's second-best winning percentage in shutouts, winning five and losing two (.714). Norfolk is the only unit with better numbers. The Tides boast a league-best eight shutout wins (.889). Today's starter, Jaron Long, fired 7.2 scoreless innings last time out in a shutout defeat of Pawtucket on Monday.

GETTIN' FIGGY WITH IT: One game after Cole Figueroa tied his career-high mark for RBIs in a game with five at Pawtucket on Wednesday, he delivered four more RBIs with two knocks last night. The utility infielder had 12 RBIs in his first 38 games with the RailRiders. He has driven in nine runs over his last two. Two of his RBIs last night came with two outs and men in scoring position. Figueroa is tied for second on the team with eight hits in such circumstances (8-for-21, .381). Those clutch performances account for nine of his RBIs on the year. Only Ben Gamel (11-for-23, .478, 15RBIs) has produced more with two down and RISP.

ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME?!: The RailRiders stand four games below .500 at PNC Field (12-16) and seven games over on the road (14-7). The team has hit .284 on the road compared to a .246 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 105 runs in 21 games (5.0/game). At home, the squad has plated 97 runs in 28 games (3.5/game). The pitching has performed better at home (3.28 ERA) than outside of Moosic (3.88). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.667) and no IL squad has more home losses than SWB (16).

HE'S HERE: The consensus No. 1 prospect for the New York Yankees, right-hander Luis Severino, has been added to the RailRiders' active roster. He will make his Triple-A debut tomorrow. Named the best Yankees' farmhand by both Baseball America and MLB.com, he went 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA in eight starts for Double-A Trenton to begin the 2015 season. He struck out 48 men while walking just 10 in 38 innings. The Eastern League hit a slim .227 against him. Baseball America named Severino the owner of the farm's "Best Fastball" and "Best Changeup".

OFF THE RAILS: Rob Refsnyder snapped his 1-for-20 five-game funk with two hits, two walks an RBI and a run scored last night...Before last night, Mitchell 's career-long outing came on Aug. 29, 2013 at New Britain while with Double-A Trenton...Since Mason Williams started his Triple-A tenure 1-for-10 at the plate, he has hit safely in six straight contests going 10-for-26 (.385) with four extra-base hits...Since an 0-for-4 showing at Durham May 16, Ramon Flores went 15-for-44 (.341) before his promotion to the Yankees earlier today...Other roster moves saw Chris Martin join the team for MLB rehab, Taylor Dugas rejoin the team from Double-A Trenton and Joel De La Cruz hit the DL.
