Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls beat the Syracuse Chiefs 4-2 Saturday night at the DBAP for their second straight win, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run double from Allan Dykstra.

With two runners aboard and two outs in the eighth inning, Dykstra drilled a double to the left-centerfield gap, scoring Ryan Brett and Taylor Motter - who had each singled - for a 4-2 lead. In the ninth Ronald Belisario made the lead stand up, earning his 12th save of the campaign with a scoreless frame.

The Bulls (28-23) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first, when Brett hit a leadoff homer over the Blue Monster. In the fifth Durham doubled its lead, as Richie Shaffer cracked a solo dinger over the Blue Monster himself.

Syracuse (17-32) plated a run in both the sixth and seventh innings, each coming around on a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2.

Righty reliever Jhan Mariñez (3-0) earned the victory, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless frames while striking out three. Right-hander Erik Davis (0-1) suffered the loss for the Chiefs, allowing a pair of runs in 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

In front of 10,220 fans, Brett and Shaffer each led the Durham offense with a pair of hits, while Motter's eighth inning single extended his hitting streak to 10 games, tied for the longest of his career.

The Bulls go for the sweep of the three-game set Sunday when they send RHP Matt Andriese (0-0, 4.35) to the mound, while the Chiefs have yet to name a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
