Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - The day has come. The consensus No. 1 prospect for the New York Yankees, right-hander Luis Severino, has been added to the active roster for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. He will make his splash at the minors' highest level on Sunday, May 31 at 1:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles).

Named the best Yankees' farmhand by both Baseball America and MLB.com, Severino went 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA in eight starts for Double-A Trenton to begin the 2015 season. He struck out 48 men while walking just 10 in 38 innings. The Eastern League hit a slim .227 against him.

Baseball America named Severino the owner of the farm's "Best Fastball" and "Best Changeup".

The 21-year-old native of the Dominican Republic saw time at three levels last season. He pitched for Low-A Charleston, Advanced-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton, going a combined 6-5 with a 2.47 ERA over 24 starts. His 127 strikeouts led all Yankees' minor leaguers. He struck out one in a scoreless inning in the prestigious Futures Game in 2014 as well.

The RailRiders are home through Wednesday afternoon. For tickets or more information, call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit the team's website, www.swbrailriders.com.
