Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Peoria, IL - In a game that featured four different lead changes, the Peoria Chiefs (9-13, 44-47) used a Chadd Krist walk-off infield single in the bottom of the tenth inning to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods (13-9, 51-41) 9-8 on Saturday night at O'Brien Field. Todd Glaesmann hit his team-leading 13th home run, and Jake Hager and Cameron Seitzer both tallied three hits. The defeat is just Bowling Green's fifth in their last 15 contests.
Glaesmann's home run came early in the game and set the tone for the high-scoring affair. After a Hager single and with two outs in the top of the first, Glaesmann flew a hanging breaking ball over the wall in left field to give the Hot Rods their first lead at 2-0. The longball was Glaesmann's first since July 1. After the Chiefs got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first, Hager put the Hot Rods back out in front by two runs with an RBI-infield single in the second.
The Chiefs scored the game's next six runs unanswered and held a 7-3 advantage going to the top of the sixth. Peoria starter Michael Jensen was chased from the game with the bases loaded after a Keith Castillo walk. Taylor Motter grounded out 5-3 and Matt Rice then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-5. Tyler Goeddel then lined a two-out single to cut the deficit to just one.
The very next inning, Bowling Green's offense got right back to work. Glaesmann tied the score at seven when he drove in his third run of the night on a single to right field with runners at first and third. Cameron Seitzer then grounded out into a double play to score another run, allowing the Hot Rods to take an 8-7 lead.
However, it was the Chiefs that scored the game's final two runs. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jason McEachern walked in a run with the bases loaded but then escaped from a huge jam. In the bottom of the tenth with runners at second and third with two outs, Chadd Krist grounded sharply to Goeddel at third base. The ball was unable to be fielded cleanly, and Goeddel's only play was to throw home. Pinch runner Oliver Zapata slid in at home safely to give the Chiefs the dramatic 9-8 win.
Continuing the three-game series in Peoria, the Hot Rods and Chiefs meet on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM CDT for the middle game at O'Brien Field. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Roberto Gomez (8-2, 2.90), while the Chiefs will counter with RHP Zach Cates (0-1, 3.38).
