Clinton, IA - The South Bend Silver Hawks came into the series against the Clinton LumberKings ranked fifth defensively in the Midwest League. In two games, the Hawks have committed seven errors and the LumberKings have taken full advantage of the miscues.

Clinton scored five times in the first two innings thanks to three South Bend errors and held off a late South Bend rally for a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field.

With two outs in the first, Ji-Man Choi ripped a double off the right-field wall to spark a rally. Ramon Morla followed with an RBI single through the right side. On Kerry Jenkins' throw home, Morla went to second base. Morla, alert on the bases, noticed the ball trickle away from catcher Zach Jones and promptly took third on the E-2. Kevin Rivers followed with a routine ground ball to short, but first baseman Matt Helm dropped Raul Navarro's throw and Morla scored to make it 2-0.

The LumberKings picked up three runs in the third after South Bend's starter Alex Capaul dropped the ball after tagging Mike Dowd trying to score from third on Morla's slow roller to the mound. Capaul injured his right leg on the play, allowing Dillon Hazlett to score from second on the error. It was 4-0 before Rivers singled to right field to score Choi from second.

Bobby Shore made a spot start for the LumberKings and pitched five brilliant innings in his first professional start. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits in his second win of the season.

South Bend chipped away at the 5-1 lead against Josh Corrales and scored single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings. Kyle Hunter pitched a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout and Richard Vargas struck out a pair in the ninth to earn his first save of the year.

The LumberKings try for the series sweep Monday morning at Ashford University Field. Jordan Shipers (4-3, 3.18) returns to the mound for the first time since he tossed a nine-inning no-hitter against West Michigan on July 11th. South Bend sends left-hander Andrew Barbosa (0-1, 3.38) in hopes of avoiding the sweep. Monday's 10:00 AM start marks the final game of the six-game home stand as the LumberKings head east to play Dayton and Bowling Green after an off day on Tuesday.
