BURLINGTON, Iowa (7/15/12) - The Burlington Bees (43-48, 12-11) let their lead slip in the top of the ninth, but still beat the Dayton Dragons (39-54, 9-14) 3-to-2 in the tenth. Aaron Shipman delivered a walk-off double that scored Bobby Crocker to win another wild Sunday afternoon game at Community Field.

The win ended the Bees' four-game losing streak and gave them their first win of the six-game home stand.

The bottom of the tenth inning started with a groundout by Max Muncy. Nick Rickles followed by hitting a sinking line drive to the short- stop, Juan Perez who couldn't handle the ball as it approached the dirt. The error gave the Bees a base runner, and the Bees' skipper Aaron Nieckula quickly removed Rickles for a faster runner.

Bobby Crocker replaced Rickles at first and watched Royce Consigli fly out to deep left field. That left Aaron Shipman with an opportu- nity to end the game with an extra-base hit, and the top-prospect didn't disappoint.

Shipman drove a screaming and high line drive to the right fielder, Yorman Rodriguez. The Dragons' right fielder must have misjudged the ball, because it took him a moment to realize the ball was sailing over his head. The ball landed at the warning track and bounced off the wall. Rodriguez compounded his mistake by chucking the ball towards the infield and missing the cut-off man. Nieckula sent Crocker to the plate and watched him reach safely a mere moment ahead of the tag.

The walk-off hit was the second for Aaron Shipman this year, but he wouldn't have had the opportunity had the Bees held onto their lead in the top of the ninth. Leading 2-to-1 with one out in the top of the ninth, David Mota surrendered a solo home run to Nick O'Shea that tied the game. The Dragons put runners on the corners with only one out in the top of the tenth, but Mota escaped without yielding another run.

Drew Granier made his 11th start at Community Field on Sunday and labored through four innings, but did not allow an earned run to score. The Dragons took a 1-to-0 lead in the top of the second when O'Shea scored on a throwing error by Rickles when the Bees' catcher tried to pick off a runner.

The Dragons actually loaded the bases twice in the first two innings, but Granier battled and minimized the damage. He allowed five hits and three walks, but also struck out five batters in his four innings of work.

The Bees took the lead with a two-out rally in the top of the second. Shipman and Sean Jamieson reached with infield singles and eventually scored when Chih-Fang Pan smacked a double to rightfield. The Bees led 2-to-1 until the ninth.

The bullpen came into the game having allowed nine runs in the last three games. Despite Mota blowing his first save, the bullpen actu- ally pitched great for four innings. Jose Macias pitched those four innings and struck out five batters while facing the minimum number of batters required for the 12 outs.

The Bees try to win the rubber match on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. A.J. Cole (4-2) gets the start against Radhames Quezada (5-7). For more information on Bees baseball call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com.
