LANSING, Mich. - The Kernels and Lugnuts sat through three separate rain delays, lasting over three total hours, as Lansing beat Cedar Rapids 9-4 in a game that was called with 2 outs in the 9th inning.

Trailing 9-1 going into the 9th inning, the Kernels scored three times before rain halted the game for the third and final time. Zach Borestein's 2- run home run made the score 9-3. With 2 outs Matt Scioscia's RBI double to left center scored Zach Wright, who had reached via an error. Eric Stamets was at the plate with a 3-1 count when the skies opened up again. After a short delay, the game was called complete with the Kernels losing.

Lansing opened up with two runs in the 1st inning, taking an early 2-0 lead. Kenny Wilson walked to begin the inning and was at 2nd base after his 32nd steal of the season. Andy Fermin then singled to left field. Wilson rounded 3rd base and was thought to be thrown out at home by Zach Borenstein's throw to Kernels catcher Zach Wright. However, an interference error was called on Kernels third baseman Kevin Moesquit, and Wilson's run counted as the game's first tally. Fermin went to 2nd base on the throw home, and he would score from 3rd base later in the inning on a 2-out RBI single by K.C. Hobson.

The first of two rain delays came in the middle of the 2nd inning. Kernels starting pitcher Austin Wood and Lansing starter Noah Syndergaard both returned to the mound after the delay.

The Lugnuts took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning. After a walk and a single, a wild pitch by Kernels starter Austin Wood sent Shane Opitz to 3rd base. He then scored on a RBI groundout by Kenny Wilson.

With one out in the bottom of the 3rd inning the tarp was put back onto the field. This delay meant the end of the night for both starting pitchers. Austin Wood (5-8) went 2.1 innings for the Kernels and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while walking 3. Lansing's Noah Syndergaard went 3 innings and allowed 0 runs and 0 hits while striking out 4 and walking 0.

The Lugnuts scored four runs in the 4th inning, taking a 7-0 lead. Andy Fermin's RBI single plated Kenny Wilson. K.C. Hobson's 3-run home run to deep right brought Fermin and Carlos Perez along for the ride.

Lansing added a run in the 5th inning, extending the lead to 8-0, on Andy Fermin's RBI triple that plated Gustavo Pierre.

The Kernels got into the run column in the 6th inning on Andy Workman's 2-out RBI single to right center that plated Eric Stamets. That cut the Lugnuts lead to 8-1.

Lansing made it a 9-1 score in the 7th inning when Gustavo Pierre singled home Shane Opitz, who had tripled one batter earlier.

Brandon Lodge pitched 2.2 innings in relief for the Kernels, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while walking 2. Joe Melioris added 3 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1.

Phil Brua (1-0) went 3 innings for Lugnuts win out of the bullpen. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Aleson Escalante threw 2.2 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits.
