Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Four points by Milan Gajic helped the Gladiators past the Greenville Grrrowl 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. With the win, Gwinnett extends its winning streak to a team-record eight games. The Gladiators surpassed their previous season mark of seven games and the organization's all time mark of seven originally set by the Mobile Mysticks during the 1996-97 season.
Scott Mifsud opened the scoring in the contest on the power play with his 14th goal of the year. Mifsud deflected Milan Gajic's centering feed out of the corner past Greenville netminder Cam Ellsworth for the tally. Troy Milam also picked up a helper on the tally.
Gwinnett pushed its lead to 2-0 on Steve Slaton's 10th goal of the year. The defenseman walked down the right wing wall, ripping a snap shot past Ellsworth for the marker. Gajic picked up his second assist of the game, feeding Slaton at the right point to set up the tally. Derek Nesbitt also had an assist on the goal scored with just 49 seconds left in the opening stanza.
Gajic's third point of the game, his first goal of the night, gave the Gladiators a 3-0 lead. Beating Ellsworth over the shoulder with a slapshot from the left wing circle, it was Gajic's 15th goal of the season. Mifsud picked up an assist, tapping the puck away from a Greenville defenseman and right to Gajic to set up the goal. Jon Awe also had an assist on the goal at 13:34 of the second period.
Greenville cut into the Gladiators lead with their first and only tally of the game with 3:16 left in the second period. Jason Jozsa picked up an assist on the tally as he sprung Tim Sestito on a breakaway for Greenville's only goal of the contest.
After killing off a 5-on-3 advantage to open the third period, Gajic's second goal of the contest just 1:50 into the third period put the game away for the Gladiators. Gajic ripped a snap shot over the shoulder of Ellsworth off a feed from Rick Emmett at the left wing point. Mifsud also had an assist on the goal.
Rick Emmett's first goal of the season came at 14:06 of the third period to give the Gladiators a 5-1 lead. Emmett walked in from the right wing point and beat Ellsworth for the marker. Lane Manson and Scott Kelman collected the assists on the goal for the Gladiators.
Gwinnett closed out the scoring with Derek Nesbitt's 16th goal of the game. His unassisted tally at 17:33 mark of the third period gave the Gladiators a 6-1 lead. An assist on the Gladiators second goal of the night helped Nesbitt extend his point scoring streak to eight consecutive games.
Winless in his first three starts with Gwinnett, Tuomas Tarkki made 24 saves for his fourth consecutive win helping the Gladiators improve to 31-9-5 on the season. The Gladiators remain in the top spot in the ECHL's American Conference with 67 points on the season.
