San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls, still riddled with injuries and American Hockey League call-ups, needed an extra skater for their two games this week in Utah. To help fill-in San Diego has signed Mike Lappan, who is a full-time sales executive with the club.
Lappan, a native of Levack, Ontario has amateur and collegiate hockey experience. He played at the Junior A level for the Nickel Centre Barons in 2000-01 (Northern Ontario Junior Hockey Association). In 1998-99 he played with Milford Academy in Connecticut, an independent college/Junior A team. Lappan led Nickel Centre in points per game in 2000-01 and was sent to Milford Academy on a hockey scholarship.
The 25-year-old is in his first full season as a sales executive and executive assistant in the Gulls' front office. He began his stint with the Gulls as a public relations intern in the summer of 2003. Prior to arriving in San Diego, Lappan spent some time as an intern for the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Sports Administration from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.
"This could honestly be the most exciting day of my life," Lappan said. "I know I'm just filling in for a couple of games, but it means so much that the coaching staff is letting me and wants me to play with the guys. This is something I will never forget. Hockeydb (www.hockeydb.com) here I come!"
Lappan and the Gulls take on the Grizzlies Wednesday and Friday, with both games starting at 6:05 p.m. PST. All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play (NOTE THAT BOTH UPCOMING GAMES IN UTAH WILL BEGIN AIRING ON KLSD AT 7 P.M. PST). Most games can also be viewed on the Gulls' Web site, courtesy of B2 Networks (BOTH GAMES IN UTAH CAN BE VIEWED LIVE).
