Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators annual specialty-themed jersey auction to benefit the Gladiators Foundation for Kids is this weekend as part of the Gladiators "Salute to Atlanta Traffic" Weekend on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
As a tongue-in-cheek celebration of Atlanta's notorious reputation as "Gridlock Capital of the South", the Gladiators will wear special jerseys designed to resemble the typical Department of Transportation workers fluorescent vests, adorned with traffic signs and highway markers down the sleeves. The players will wear these jerseys on Saturday, February 24th against the South Carolina Stingrays and Sunday, February 25th against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
To help fans cope with the daily commute through Atlanta traffic, the Gladiators will be giving away stress relievers in the shape of bright-orange mini traffic cones. The first 2,500 fans to the game on Saturday night will receive a stress reliever courtesy of Kia Mall of Georgia, Fox 5 Atlanta and Kicks 101.5 FM.
In addition to the special jerseys, the Arena at Gwinnett Center will resemble Atlanta area traffic during a typical daily commute, featuring a road block caused by a broken down Zamboni resulting in detours leading to the main entrance from the parking lot. Once inside, fans will have to navigate to their seats with the assistance of the "Concourse Crew" comprised of the arena staff.
Following the Gladiators game on Sunday, the specialty jerseys will be auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting The Gladiators Foundation for Kids. These annual post-game specialty jersey auctions have raised over $80,000 during the team's first three seasons. The Gladiators special "St. Patrick's Day" jerseys raised over $16,600 during the team's inaugural season while the "Tie-Dye" jerseys brought in $28,175 for the Foundation during the 2004-05 season. Last season's "Military Appreciation" jerseys raised over $46,000.
The Gladiators Foundation for Kids was established by the by the Gwinnett Gladiators to help support the many Non-Profit Agencies and Organizations who work with Children in Gwinnett and Surrounding communities. The Gladiators for Kids Fund is managed by the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, a highly respected 501-C-3 charitable organization based in Duluth, GA.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue their fourth season as a proud member of the ECHL on February 20th as they travel to Pensacola to take on the Ice Pilots at 8:05 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. In addition, the Gladiators offer several unique multi-game ticket packages as well as discounted group rates, suite rentals, and birthday parties.
