Gladiators Playoff March Update

April 5, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Playoff March Notes:

· If the playoffs were to begin today, the Gladiators would be the 7th seed in the American Conference and would face the Columbia Inferno in the first round. The top 8 teams in the conference qualify for the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Division winners seeded 1 & 2.
· The Gladiators clinched a playoff berth with a win over Bakersfield on Saturday, March 26th.
· All the playoff positions have been clinched in the American Conference.
· With the best record in the ECHL, Pensacola has clinched the American Conference title and will be seeded 1st in the American Conference.
· Florida will clinch the 3rd seed in the playoff race with just one more point. In the same division as Pensacola, Florida cannot finish higher than 3rd since the 2nd seed goes to the top team in the East Division which is currently Columbia.
· Teams are now fighting for playoff position in the American Conference with 1 point separating 7th place and 4th place.
· 3 points separate the top 3 teams in the East Division with the winner being seeded 2nd overall while the 2nd place team could finish as low as 6th in the Confernce.
· The Gladiators can finish as high as 4th seed in the American Conference and as low as 8th in the conference.
· The only way for the Gladiators to clinch home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs would be to finish in 4th place in the Conference.
· Last season in the Playoffs, the Gladiators were the lower seed in the first two rounds beating Mississippi and Louisiana before falling to eventual Kelly Cup Champion Idaho as the higher seed in the playoffs.
· Gwinnett has 3 games remaining, 2 at home and 1 on the road.
· The Gladiators host Charlotte on Tuesday, Augusta on Friday and are at Augusta on Saturday.
