Augusta Lynx News Release

Two power play goals were not enough to propel the Augusta Lynx past the South Carolina Stingrays Tuesday night, as Joe Tenute scored the game-winning goal in overtime for a 4-3 Stingrays victory.

Ken Magowan kicked off the scoring for Augusta at 12:14 of the first period with a power play goal from Eric Johansson and Louis Goulet. Magowan wrapped the puck out in front of the Stingrays net and through the pads of Gregg Naumenko for the 1-0 lead. Kevin Spiewack would even for South Carolina at 18:13 for a 1-1 score at the intermission.

The Stingrays gained the lead at 3:05 of the second period on Rich Peverly's marker, but the Lynx again scored on the power play to even the contest at 2-2. Jamie Johnson beat Naumenko on a back door pass from Goulet, with Sean Connolly also adding a helper at 10:55 of the second stanza.

Brett Clouthier notched his first goal in a Lynx uniform to give Augusta the lead back at 2:41 from Johansson and Johnson, but Ed Courtenay tied the game and sent it to overtime at 13:29 of the final frame.

Overtime would end quickly as just 57 seconds into the extra session Tenute wrapped a shot around the Lynx net and off Jason Saal for the game-winning goal. Matt Reid picked up the lone assist on the marker for a 4-3 final.

Naumenko earned the win with 22 saves while Saal helped the Lynx to the regulation point on 34 stops.
