Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, Miss. – Mississippi goaltender Phil Sauve made 22 saves to register his second shutout of the season backstopping the Sea Wolves to a 3-0 win over the Texas Wildcatters at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

"We put in a full 60 minutes tonight," Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. "Sauve was strong in net and we had contribution from all three forward lines to go along with strong defense. We control our own destiny. If we win at least two of the final three regular season games, we'll have home-ice advantage for the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. That's our goal."

With the win, the Sea Wolves have reeled off five consecutive home victories.

Mississippi (39-23-7, 85 points) got on the scoreboard just one second after a Texas tripping penalty expired to Andrew Ianiero at 2:52 of the opening stanza. Sea Wolves' Bates Battaglia buried a rebound at the side of the net past Phil Osaer for his fifth goal of the season. Austin Miller and Nick Greenough picked up assists.

Just 54 seconds into the second period, the Sea Wolves made it 2-0 on the penalty kill. Stephen Greeley took a lead pass from Chris Cava and potted a breakaway goal for his fourth tally of the campaign. John Evangelista had the other helper.

Mississippi extended its lead to 3-0 at the 17:13 mark of the second. Jay Legault made a nifty move around Nick Fouts then fed a pass to Travis Lisabeth, who notched his eighth goal in his last eight games, giving him 26 goals on the year. Legault's assist extended his point streak to seven games. A helper also went to Mike Jarmuth.

Texas (16-43-11, 43 points) had some opportunities and its best chance in the third. Ianiero centered the puck for John Snowden, who leads the Wildcatters with 32 goals, but he was denied by Sauve in front of the Mississippi net.

Sauve went on to stop a total of eight shots in the third period to preserve his 18th professional shutout.

Mississippi was unsuccessful on three power play chances, while Texas went 0-for-3 as well. Sea Wolves outshot the Wildcatters 32-22.
