Gladiators Guimond Named to ECHL All Rookie Team

Rookie defenseman Sacha Guimond from the Gwinnett Gladiators has been named to the ECHL's 2012-13 All-Rookie Team.

Also named to the ECHL All-Rookie team this year along with Guimond include goaltender Ryan Zapolski of South Carolina, defenseman Cameron Burt and forward Mario Lamoureux of Ontario, forward David Pacan of Cincinnati and forward David Vallorani of Reading.

Guimond currently leads all ECHL defensemen with 47 points, is tied for first with 35 assists and is ranked fourth with 12 goals. He is also first among blue-liners with nine power-play goals and 29 power-play points while his 20 power-play assists are tied for first among defensemen.

The Ville-Marie, QC native has collected 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) in 24 games with the Gladiators since he was acquired in a trade with the San Francisco Bulls along with Justin Bowers in exchange for Rylan Galiardi, Cody Carlson, and Christian Ouellet on January 14th.

Guimond posted 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 33 games with San Francisco. In addition, he has also been called up to American Hockey League three times this season. He skated in four games with the Norfolk Admirals and two games with the Worcester Sharks.

Last season with Bale-Comeau Drakkar, Guimond posted 41 points (nine goals, 32 assists) in 65 games.

The last time the Gladiators had a player named to the All-Rookie team was in the 2009-10 season when defensemen Drew Paris and Sam Roberts were selected to represent the Gladiators. The Gladiators have had a player named to the ECHL All-Rookie team in six of ten seasons in Gwinnett.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
