ECHL Announces 2012-13 All-Rookie Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Wednesday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2012-13 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.

A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.

2012-13 ECHL All-Rookie Team

G - Ryan Zapolski, South Carolina Stingrays (39 gp, 26-11-2, 1.66 GAA, .942 save pct.)

D - Cameron Burt, Ontario Reign (59 gp, 1g, 36a, 37 pts., +19)

D - Sacha Guimond, Gwinnett Gladiators (57 gp, 12g, 35a, 47 pts., -4)

F - Mario Lamoureux, Ontario Reign (69 gp, 25g, 38a, 63 pts., +30)

F - David Pacan, Cincinnati Cyclones (57 gp, 14g, 38a, 52 pts., +10)

F - David Vallorani, Reading Royals (66 gp, 17g, 41a, 58 pts., +18)

Since the ECHL began naming the All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, 15 players selected have gone to play in the National Hockey League: Richard Bachman (2009-10), David Desharnais (2007-08), Cedrick Desjardins (2006-07), Kevin Doell (2003-04), Brian Fahey (2003-04), Vern Fiddler (2002-03), Simon Gamache (2001-02), Mike Glumac (2002-03), Philipp Grubauer (2011-12), Adam Hauser (2002-03), Jason Jaffray (2002-03), Anton Khudobin (2007-08), Ben Street (2010-11), Joey Tenute (2004-05) and Zenon Konopka (2002-03).

The ECHL will announce its First-Team All-ECHL and Second-Team All-ECHL teams on Thursday.

Ryan Zapolski of the South Carolina Stingrays is 26-11-2, and leads the ECHL with a 1.66 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage and eight shutouts. His eight shutouts are tied for the most in a single season in ECHL history. Zapolski has allowed two goals or less in 33 of his 39 appearances this season. The 26-year-old was named Most Valuable Player of the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game, and was selected as the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December and February .

Cameron Burt of the Ontario Reign leads rookie defensemen with 36 assists and is second among first-year blue-liners with 37 points, which is tied for fourth among all league defensemen. He is tied for fourth among rookies in plus-minus at +19 and his 11 power-play assists are tied for sixth among rookies.

Sacha Guimond of the Gwinnett Gladiators leads all ECHL defensemen with 47 points, is tied for first with 35 assists and is fourth with 12 goals. He is first among blue-liners with nine power-play goals and 29 power-play points while his 20 power-play assists are tied for first among defensemen. Guimond has also appeared in six American Hockey League games with Worcester and Norfolk.

Mario Lamoureux of the Ontario Reign leads all rookies in scoring with 63 points, while ranking second among first-year players with 25 goals and tied for second with 38 assists. He is tied for first among rookies, and for third overall in the league, with eight game-winning goals, while his +30 rating leads all first-year players and is tied for the league lead. His brother, Jean-Philippe, was named to the ECHL All-Rookie team in 2008-09 while playing with Alaska.

David Pacan of the Cincinnati Cyclones is second among rookies with 38 assists and is tied for third with 52 points. He is tied for first among rookies, and tied for fifth overall, with three shorthanded goals. Pacan has added two assists in six games with San Antonio of the American Hockey League.

David Vallorani of the Reading Royals leads all rookies with 41 assists and is second with 58 points. He ranks second among rookies with 15 power-play assists and is tied for third with 17 power-play points.
