Colorado Eagles News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies scored four goals in just over nine minutes in the second period on the way to topping the Colorado Eagles, 5-2, in the first of three games between the rivals this week to close out the regular season. The win extended Utah's unbeaten-in-regulation streak to 10 games as they try and catch Colorado in the Western Conference standings.

The Eagles out-shot the Grizzlies, 13-12, in the first frame, but it was Utah that took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Tommy Maxwell got the goal 11 minutes in when he scored from atop the left circle on a quick rush. The goal was just Maxwell's fifth on the season, but three have come against Colorado as he has tormented his former team.

The Grizzlies scored four goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead into the second intermission. The home team went up 2-0 at 6:37 of the frame when Adam Estoclet sent a shot on net from the left circle and Colin Vock put home the rebound as he crashed the crease.

Two minutes later, Berkley Scott's shot from the right circle went off the skate of Chris Donovan on the doorstep and past Adam Brown, chasing the rookie goalie from the net after stopping 16 of 19 shots in just under half the game. But things didn't get any better for veteran Kyle Jones who allowed two more goals on the nine shots he faced the rest of the frame.

David Eddy made it 3-0 with a power-play marker two minutes after Donovan's deflection when he redirected a point shot into the net. And six minutes later, Darren Rowe finished the stanza's scoring with his own shot from the point following a faceoff in the left circle.

Colorado's league-leading power play helped them get back in the game with a pair of goals in the third period, but it was too little, too late. Brock Nixon got the visitors on the board just 1:48 in when he took a shot from the right circle and then poked home his own rebound to tally his first professional goal.

Then at 12:32, Trent Daavettila redirected a Kevin Ulanski centering feed past Ben Meisner from the slot to cut Utah's lead to 5-3, but that was as close as the Eagles would come despite out-shooting the Grizzlies, 16-3, in the final frame.
