Gladiators Beat Texas, 3-2

The Gwinnett Gladiators used a goal 13 seconds into the first period from Mike Vigilante and 19 saves from Simon Lajeunesse to beat the Texas Wildcatters 4-2 in front of 6,406 on Monday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Mike Vigilante gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead 13 seconds into the first period jamming home a centering pass from Jeff Campbell past Texas netminder Phil Osaer. Peter Flache also picked up an assist on Vigilante's career-high-tying 15th goal of the season.

Kris Goodjohn pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 with a power play goal 8:05 into the second period. The forward found the loose puck in a pile up in front of the Texas net and tapped the puck through the legs of Osaer for the goal. Chris Durno and Adam Smyth added the assists on the goal for the Gladiators.

Texas got on the board with a power play goal two minutes later. John Snowden ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Gladiators netminder Simon Lajeunesse from the left wing face off circle. Terry Marchant added an assist as he set up Snowden while Kevin Cooper also picked on assist on the goal at 12:01 of the second period.

Chris Durno regained the two-goal advantage for the Gladiators before the second intermission. Durno took a pass in the slot from Goodjohn and jammed the puck past Osaer for the tally. Colin Stuart picked up a helper on the goal at 12:43 of the second period.

Texas drew within a goal as Lajeunesse got a piece of a Texas slap shot but couldn't handle the rebound as Mark Gianetti pushed the puck past the Gladiators netminder for the tally. Andrew Ianiero and John Snowden added the assists on the goal at 10:50 of the third period.

Alex Sawruk scored his first professional goal snapping a wrist shot over the shoulder of Osaer to give the Gladiators a two-goal cushion late in the third period and put the game away. Jeff Campbell added an assist on the goal at 15:34 of the final period throwing the puck in to the slot to a waiting Sawruk.

Lajeunesse picked up his first win with Gwinnett making 19 saves while the Gladiators improve to 19-12-4 on the season with the victory.
