Pride Acquire Toughness in Three-Team Deal
January 17, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Thierry Douville (Terry DOO-vill) from the Fresno Falcons as part of a three-way trade. The Pride traded defenseman Matt Maglione to the Greenville Grrrowl for defenseman Corey Hessler, and then traded Hessler to Fresno for Douville.
The 21-year-old Douville is in his first professional season out of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. With the Falcons this season, he appeared in 27 games, registering three assists. Douville ranks fourth in the ECHL in penalty minutes (153) and third in major penalties (13). In four seasons in the QMJHL, Douville accumulated 1,334 penalty minutes, an average of 334 penalty minutes per season. Douville was a seventh-round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
"We are excited to have a big, mean defenseman coming to Pee Dee," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "Theirry is a young man that likes to mix it up and be involved physically. His presence on the ice will be a big asset for our team."
Maglione appeared in 17 games for the Pride this season, tallying two assists and 22 penalty minutes.
Pee Dee wraps up its five-game home stand with a pair of games this weekend. Friday, the Louisiana IceGators come to town for a 7:30 face-off. On Saturday, the Pride host the Johnstown Chiefs, also at 7:30. The first 2,500 fans in attendance receive free Thundersticks, courtesy of First Reliance Bank.
Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
