Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons completed a three-team trade today, sending defenseman Thierry Douville to the Pee Dee Pride and receiving Greenville Grrrowl defenseman Corey Hessler in return. Greenville picked-up defenseman Matt Maglione from the Pride to complete the transaction.
Hessler will join the Falcons having played 32 games for Greenville this season, where he recorded nine points (3g-6a) and 33 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 205 lb. blue-liner was named an ECHL All-Star in 2002-03 when he posted 40 points (17g-23a) as a rookie for the Columbia Inferno, which then made a trip to the Kelly Cup Finals that season before losing to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. He played in Columbia again last season, but also suited up in eight games for the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates. Prior to turning pro, Hessler spent four years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He registered one assist for the Grrrowl during their two games against the Falcons earlier this season.
"With things as competitive as they are in our division, we felt we needed to add another element and more experience to our back-end," said Falcons General Manager Blaine Moore. "We saw Corey play when he was here earlier this year and liked what we saw. Obviously we lose a lot of toughness by giving up Thierry, but we feel we'll still be physical enough on D."
Douville leaves the Falcons as the fourth most penalized player in the league with 153 penalty minutes. He is third in the ECHL with 13 fighting majors and leads all rookies in both categories. The 6-4, 230 lb. defenseman also recorded three assists in 27 games with Fresno.
The Falcons return home to Save Mart Center following a four-game road trip still unbeaten in 2005 with a record of 7-0-1 in the New Year. They host the Pensacola Ice Pilots tomorrow at 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at the Save Mart Center box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
