Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC â The Victoria Salmon Kings ended their seven game road trip on Sunday against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. It has been tough sledding for the Salmon Kings on the road this season and it was no easier for them Sunday losing to the Ice Dogs 4-2.
Jason Stone got the call from Head Coach Bryan Maxwell to guard the space between the pipes after having the last two nights off, with Kelly Shields taking over the duty.
At 3:17 of the first Nate Forster was sent to the penalty box for slashing. Twenty seconds later Ice Dogs points' leader Chris Kenady potted his twentieth of the season and the Ice Dogs were out to the fast start against the Salmon Kings.
11:21 into the first period David Walker scored from Marco Rosa and Joe Cardarelli, and Long Beach went to the first intermission with a two goal lead.
The Salmon Kings started the second period better than they started the first though. Blueliner Rob MacGregor playing in only his fourth ECHL game scored his first goal. Jason Hegberg's assist was his first point since coming off the injured reserve on January 8th and the second assist was awarded to Craig Zubersky, his first point in his young rookie season.
Defenseman Adam Campbell notched the first assist of his short four game ECHL career at 16:20 of the second period. The assist came on Mike Josephson's third goal of the season and second in as many nights. Ryan Wade picked the other helper on the play.
The Ice Dogs were able to take the lead late in the period though. At 19:38, Chris Kenady and Dan Watson set up Evan Cheverie's fifteenth of the campaign and Long Beach was up 3-2 at the break.
Thirty-eight seconds into the third period Marco Rosa put the game out of reach with his twelfth, assisted by Cardarelli and Walker. The Salmon Kings maintained offensive zone pressure and were able to pelt Ice Dogs goaltender Olivier Michaud with thirty-seven shots, including out-shooting Long Beach eleven to three in the final period, but Michaud stood tall.
The Salmon Kings finally come home after a demanding road trip to face those same Ice Dogs at Bear Mountain Arena on Tuesday January 18th and Wednesday January 19, 2005. Game time is 7:00 p.m. PST and tickets for all Victoria Salmon Kings home games are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
