Gibbons, Lindsey, May Named to PCL All-Star Squad

July 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A trio of Albuquerque Isotopes sluggers; outfielder Jay Gibbons, infielder John Lindsey, and catcher Lucas May, have been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team, which will take on All-Stars from the International League at the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game in Lehigh Valley, PA on Wednesday, July 14. Gibbons and Lindsey were each elected to start the contest by vote of fans and PCL Managers, while May was selected as a reserve by PCL Managers and League office representatives.

Gibbons has established himself as one of the fiercest hitters in the circuit this season, compiling a .333 batting average with 11 home runs and 55 RBI, tied for the third most in the PCL. From May 10-28 Gibbons had a season-high 13-game hitting streak in which he batted .579 (33x57) with 13 runs, seven doubles, two homers, and 18 RBI.

Before injuring his calf on June 4, Lindsey had been leading the Pacific Coast League in hitting for most of the season, posting a .405 mark before being sidelined. The infielder, who will be the PCL's starting Designated Hitter for the game, has twice been selected PCL Player of the Week so far this season and on May 11, tied a franchise record with five hits in a 5-for-5 performance at Colorado Springs. Odds are good Lindsey will be healthy and able to play in the Triple-A All-Star Game as his calf is healing nicely and, barring additional setbacks, he is slated to re-join the Isotopes next week when the team is playing in Iowa.

In his first season at the Triple-A level May has been a sensation, batting .320 with 10 homers and 38 RBI in 54 games. The catcher enters July having posted a torrid month of June in which he batted .341 with seven homers, and a team-high 23 RBI. Earlier this homestand, May set a career-high by driving in six runs in a game on June 28 vs. Memphis.

The 23rd annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be played at Coca-Cola Park in Lehigh Valley, PA (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Wednesday, July 14. First pitch is slated for 5:07 PM MT and will be broadcast live on MLB Network.

The 'Topes resume their homestand today with a three-game series against the Oklahoma City RedHawks, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, that includes back-to-back fireworks shows on July 2 and July 3. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com .
