July 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Nashville Sounds News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville shortstop Luis Cruz has been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and will represent the Sounds on the 30-man squad that takes on the International League stars in the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 14 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The 26-year-old Cruz - who was selected as a reserve for the contest by the PCL office - is batting .292 (78-for-267) with 17 doubles, two triples, six home runs, and 43 RBIs in a team-high 72 games played for the Sounds. He is a member of the Milwaukee Brewers' 40-man roster.

Cruz ranks second among Nashville players with his 43 RBIs (trailing Joe Koshansky's 44) despite typically batting in the lower third of the order, and leads the club with 13 multiple-RBI contests on the year. His 117 total bases this season are 2nd-most on the Sounds club (Trent Oeltjen, 132).

Other highlights of his stellar season include posting a team-best 11-game hitting streak from May 9-20 and belting a grand slam on May 31st against Iowa.

The All-Star nod is the fourth mid-season honor of Cruz's 10-year pro career. His most recent appearance came in the 2006 Southern League All-Star Game, a year in which he also appeared in the MLB All-Star Futures Game in Pittsburgh. The Nashville infielder previously appeared in the 2004 California-Carolina League All-Star Game and the 2001 Gulf Coast League All-Star Game.

One former Sound was named as an additional participant for the PCL team in the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game. Outfielder Jay Gibbons, who batted .312 in 29 games for Nashville in 2008, will be a member of the PCL's starting lineup as one of three Albuquerque Isotopes players in the game.

Infielder Joe Dillon, who played in Music City in 2007-08, was the lone ex-Sound named to the International League All-Star roster for the contest, which was announced yesterday. Ex-Nashville skipper Frank Kremblas, who ranks third in Sounds history with 299 managerial wins over four seasons from 2005-08, will serve on the IL's coaching staff. He is in his second year as manager at Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

The 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game will be broadcast live on television on MLB Network as well as on the radio on 104.5 FM "The Zone" at 6:05 p.m. CDT.
