July 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Iowa Cubs News Release
The Iowa Cubs fell to the Omaha Royals, 6-3, Thursday night at Principal Park in front of 10,009 fans.
The Cubs took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Darwin Barney, who was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team earlier in the day, singled and scored on Brad Snyder's double. Micah Hoffpauir then drove in Snyder with a single for the 2-0 Iowa lead.
Omaha responded with a second-inning run thanks to Kila Ka'aihue's solo home run, to trim Iowa's lead, 2-1. The Royals took the lead in the third inning when Cody Clark plated Jai Miller with a double. David Lough then tripled and a throwing error by Iowa second baseman Matt Camp left the playing field, allowing Lough to take home and increase the lead, 3-2.
The Cubs tied it up in the fourth inning when Ty Wright singled for his first Triple-A hit. Welington Castillo doubled home Wright to tie the game 3-3. Castillo, Bryan LaHair and Hoffpauir collected two hits in the win.
However, that would be all the Cubs would get as Omaha posted a pair of runs in the sixth inning for the 5-3 lead. Ka'aihue and Ed Lucas drew walks off Iowa reliever John Gaub. Ka'aihue scored on Jordan Parraz's single and Lucas scored on balk. The Royals tallied another insurance run in the ninth as Miller hit a home run for the 6-3 final.
Gaub (3-3, 4.82) was tagged with the loss, alowing two runs on one hit in one inning of work. Omaha's Bryan Bullington (5-1, 2.85) picked up the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings.
