Torra Deals Complete Game in 9-2 Aces Victory
July 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Matt Torra tossed just the second complete game in Aces franchise history Thursday night, lifting the Reno Aces to a 9-2 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in the series opener at Cashman Field.
Torra (5-5) scattered two runs on 11 hits. He walked one and struck out three in a dominant 95-pitch effort.
The 51s jumped on the board first with two runs in the second inning, but Torra wouldn't bend from that point forward. It was just then, as well, that the Aces offense came to life. Reno pushed across four runs in the third, then added five insurance runs in the sixth inning.
All nine Reno starters collected at least one base hit on the night, and seven Aces batters finished with two hits. Brandon Allen continued his torrid stretch, homering for the third time in the last four games, this a three-run blast. John Hester added two RBIs for the Aces, and Yunesky Sanchez extended his hitting streak to nine games.
The loss fell to 51s starter Lance Broadway (2-8), who surrendered eight earned runs on 12 hits over 5.1 innings of work.
Torra's complete game is the first in Aces franchise history since Billy Buckner tossed a complete game shutout over Tacoma on July 31 of last season at Aces Ballpark.
The series continues on Friday night from Cashman Field. RHP Wes Roemer (1-3, 5.44 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the 51s are set to counter with LHP Luis Perez (1-1, 7.47 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. PT.
The Aces return home on the Fourth of July to begin a four-game set with the Sacramento River Cats. The July 4 opener is sold out, but fans are encouraged to participate in the pre-game festivities on the plaza beginning at 2 p.m. and watch the game from the Freight House District. Tickets remain available for the remainder of the series, including the July 5 matinee , where 2,500 fans will receive a three-piece Aces barbecue tool set presented by KRNV.
