Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City-----The Gary SouthShore Railcats scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Explorers 13-3 here on Friday. The victory evened the four-game series at two wins apiece. In scoring seven runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Jason Jarvis, the RailCats sent 12 batters to the plate and had three hits, with two triples in the inning. After that the Explorers never recovered in dropping to 21-27 for the season. The Explorers tried to come back as Kris Sanchez hit a towering two-run home run in the second inning, his eighth of the season that cut the lead to 7-2, but the Explorers could get no closer. The RailCats added three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Sean Henry, his second home run of the series. The Explorers had ten hits in the game, but hit into four double plays that stopped any chances of a rally. Ryan Priddy had three hits, including two doubles while Wally Backman, Jr. had two doubles for the home team. The Explorers finished the homestand at 3-4 and will now play at St. Paul Saturday, starting a four-game series with the Saints at 7:05. Sioux City will return home next Thursday to begin a four-game series with Sioux Falls.
