RailCats Acquire Pair of Outfielders from Laredo; Sign Miranda

GARY, Ind. - Manager Greg Tagert announced today that the RailCats have acquired outfielders Ernie Banks, Jr. and Matt Forgatch from the Laredo Lemurs in exchange for left-handed pitcher Chuck Lukanen. The RailCats have also released infielder Zach Tanner and signed infielder Sergio Miranda. Right-handed pitcher Stephen Hiscock was placed on the 7-day DL.

Banks, Jr., 26, had a .343 batting average for Laredo, with three home runs and 25 RBI in 39 games. He is a former 44th round draft pick of the Florida Marlins in 2007. He is in his sixth season of professional baseball.

Forgatch is a 23 year old from San Marino, California. In ten games with the Lemurs, he hit .250 with one home run and four RBI. Forgatch is a rookie out of Pepperdine University.

The 25 year old Miranda is a former farmhand of the Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves. This season with Bridgeport of the Atlantic League, Miranda was 1-for-3 in his only game played. In 2007, Miranda was a 13th round pick of the White Sox out of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Tanner, who was signed on June 28th, had one hit in five at-bats in two games for the RailCats.
