Campbell Returns to RedHawks

FARGO, N.D. -The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed 3B Eric Campbell to a contract, and he will be in the line-up tonight as the RedHawks open a four-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. To make room on the roster for Campbell, the RedHawks have released OF Sergio Pedroza.

Campbell, 27, spent the 2010 season with Fargo-Moorhead. He batted .311 with 19 doubles, 22 home runs, 80 RBIs and 72 runs scored in 85 games and helped the RedHawks to the second of back-to-back Northern League titles. Following the season, Campbell was named to the Baseball America All-Independent League 1st Team, was a Northern League All-Star and had his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds organization.

This season, Campbell was batting .245 with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs, 20 RBIs and 29 runs scored in 59 games for the Jackson Generals, the Southern League (AA) affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Campbell was released by the Mariners earlier this week.

Campbell was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2nd round of the 2004 draft by the Atlanta Braves. In his nine-year career, Campbell has hit .273 with 169 doubles, nine triples, 132 home runs and 508 RBIs in 789 games.

Pedroza batted .266 with six home runs, 24 RBIs and 19 runs scored in 27 games for the RedHawks this season. He has left the RedHawks to pursue an opportunity in another league.
