Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup squares off East Division rivals Reading and Adirondack, the 12th and final meeting of the season between the two teams. Adirondack has controlled the season series to date with a 7-3-1 record, including a win last time out on Sunday, February 28 in Glens Falls.

THE LAKE PLACID EXPERIENCE: The Thunder and Royals will make history tonight in the first regular season professional game ever played in Lake Placid. Herb Brooks Arena has played host to NCAA Playoff and NHL pre-season games, but never host to a regular season, professional hockey game. The arena was previously the site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games, where the United States won gold and defeated the Soviet Union in the process in the game since dubbed the "Miracle On Ice."

NORTH BY NORTHWOOD: Defenseman Patch Alber and forward Peter MacArthur are both returning to the area after they played prep school hockey at Northwood School in Lake Placid. Alber skated with the school from 2005-2007 while MacArthur played there from 2001-2003, where he led the team in scoring with 84 points (40-44-84) in 2002-03.

MIKE AND IKES: Forward Michael Kirkpatrick scored his team leading 26th goal of the season in Friday's 4-2 loss in Elmira, tying him for third in the ECHL, one shy of the league lead. Kirkpatrick, who also holds the ECHL rookie lead by five goals, leads the Thunder in all major scoring categories including goals, assists (24), points (50), power-play goals (8) and power-play points (17).

WELCOME TO THE GUNN SHOW: The Thunder got a timely second period goal from forward Gunnar Hughes last night, who connected with Jeff Silengo to knot the score at two with 1:01 to play in the middle stanza. Hughes is one of seven Adirondack skaters with double digits in goals on the season. Overall in his rookie campaign, Hughes has collected 18 points (11-7-18) and ranks tied for third on the team with 54 games played.

ALB IN: With a helper on Kirkpatrick's goal, defenseman Patch Alber extended his team lead in assists with 26 on the season. With a strong run as of late, where the Clifton Park native has picked up 10 assists in his last 10 games, Alber has moved into a tie for fourth in the ECHL in helpers among defensemen. Alber is also now tied with Ryan Constant for the Thunder lead in points (15) and power-play points (15) for defensemen.

GOOSE AND MAVRIC: The Thunder have bolstered their goaltending corps with the signing of netminder Mavric Parks from the University of Prince Edward Island. Parks skated in five collegiate seasons after four seasons of major junior hockey in the OHL. The 6-2 goaltender had a 3.09 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in 79 games at UPEI.
