WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers played four games at home this week, looking to pick up valuable points in the Eastern Conference Playoff Race. They succeeded with flying colors, collecting seven out of eight possible points, after going 3-0-1. On Sunday afternoon, the homestand concluded against the Norfolk Admirals. With the score tied 1-1, the Nailers scored twice in the final two minutes of the second period, helping JP Anderson earn the win in his Wheeling debut. The final score was 3-1, with the goals coming from Derek Army, Riley Brace, and Cody Wydo.

The two sides both received power plays in the second half of the period, and each team converted once for a 1-1 deadlock. The Admirals got on the scoreboard first. Jordan Hill's shot from the blueline was gloved away by JP Anderson, the rebound got chopped free to Wes Cunningham, who finished off the play on the right side of the crease. Greg Chase's excessive celebration put the Nailers on the power play, and they made him pay. Cody Wydo set up Derek Army for a blast from the left circle, which was ripped in for the equalizer. Wydo's assist extended his point streak to six, as he has appeared on the scoresheet in 14 of the last 15 games. Riley Brace also snagged a helper.

The game stayed tied until the final two minutes of the middle frame, when Wheeling scored a pair of goals to take a lead into the intermission. The first marker came with 1:18 left. Brett Stern let a shot go from the left point, which was blocked in traffic. However, Derek Army dragged the rebound free for Riley Brace, who cruised in on the right side, and potted his 22nd of the season. 44 seconds later, Army set up another goal, blocking a shot, and leading a 2-on-1 through center ice. After crossing the blueline, Army floated a pass to Cody Wydo, who roofed a backhander into the top right-corner of the cage.

That offense turned out to be all that was necessary, as neither team scored on 15 total shots in the third period, wrapping up the 3-1 win for the Nailers.

JP Anderson made his first start in a Wheeling uniform, and collected the win, making 22 saves on 23 shots. Nic Riopel took the loss for Norfolk, despite turning aside 20 of the 23 shots he faced.

The Nailers will head on the road for their next three games, starting in Cincinnati on Thursday night at 7:35. Wheeling's next home game will take place on March 22nd at 7:05 against Toledo. McDonald's $5 Kids Tickets will be available, in addition to a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket offer. Additional exciting promotions include Duck Dynasty Night on April 1st and an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on April 2nd.
