Americans Sweep Season Series with the Thunder
March 13, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Americans looked to close off a series sweep of the Wichita Thunder on Sunday afternoon at the Allen Event Center. Allen would notch that 13th win against Wichita on the year, winning 3-2.
The Americans got off on the right foot as Tristan King was left all alone in front of the net. A few moves, and a couple of head fakes later, Allen was up 1-0 on King's 10th goal of the season. The go-ahead goal came only 1:02 into the game. Reid Halabi later chipped in his 1st goal of the season on a rebound, extending the Americans lead to 2-0. Riley Gill got a rest after the Allen win on Saturday evening, thus opening the door for James Murray, who made his first start of his professional career.
Wichita would cut Allen's lead in half in the second period. Former American forward Kale Kerbashian continued to play well against his old team as he netted his 14th of the season. While Murray was beaten by Kerbashian in that instance, he played very well in his Allen debut. At the end of the second period, the Thunder almost doubled Allen in shots on goal. Of Wichita's 28 shots, Murray stood tall against 27 of them, raising a few eyebrows along the way.
Murray would eventually be beaten once again by Ian Lowe with less than two minutes left in the game. With Lowe's 12th of the season, and a tie game, David Makowski would take matters into his own hands. On a one timer from a Chad Costello pass, Makowski scored 31 seconds later, regaining the Allen lead.
The Americans return to the ice on Wednesday, March 16th, as the Missouri Mavericks return to the Allen Event Center with puck drop at 7:05 pm.
