Mallards Notes

Last Night

Sam Warning scored twice and P.J. Musico made 28 saves as the Mallards jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and held on to defeat the host Cincinnati Cyclones 3-2.

Race

With last night's win, the Mallards moved past idle Tulsa to take over eighth place in the Western Conference and the final playoff spot in the conference.

Splitsville

The Mallards last night rebounded to earn a split of their two-game series in Cincinnati after falling to the Cyclones 3-1 Friday evening.

Busy

Tonight's game is the Mallards' third in three nights. This is the seventh of eight stretches of three games in three nights for the Mallards this season. They have gone 3-2-1 when playing for the third time in three evenings.

On the Road Again

Tonight's game is the fourth of six straight on the road for the Mallards. They have started that road swing 2-1-0. The Mallards will close out that stretch with two games against the Komets in Fort Wayne next weekend.

Undermanned

The Mallards won last night despite dressing just 15 skaters instead of the standard 16 for a second straight game.

Early Bird

Olivier Archambault last night scored the Mallards' earliest goal of the season when he found the net just 46 seconds into the game.

Trifecta

The Mallards matched a season high by scoring three first period goals last night.

Road Warriors

The Mallards have won four of their last five road games.

Between the Pipes

With last night's win Musico is now unbeaten in regulation (2-0-1) in three games since joining the Mallards in a trade with Greenville last month.

Archambault has scored six goals and totaled nine points in his last eight games.

Warning Sign

Warning last night scored twice in one game for the third time this season.

Leader of the Pack

Matt Carey picked up an assist last night and has now recorded 23 points (11 goals and 12 assists) in his last 19 games. Carey leads the Mallards with 19 goals. He is the only Mallard averaging a point per game: 36 points in 36 games.

Rook

Matt Neal assisted on both of Warning's goals last night and has recorded eight points (four goals and four assists) in his last eight games. Neal leads the Mallards in assists (26) and points (42) and ranks ninth among ECHL rookies in points.

Special Teams

Archambault scored on the Mallards' only power play last night. The Mallards last night held the Cyclones without a goal on six opportunities and went 8-for-8 on the penalty kill over the last two nights in Cincinnati. The Mallards are tied for twelfth in the ECHL in penalty killing (84.3 percent) and rank fifteenth on the power play (16.7 percent).

Milestones

Mike Monfredo has played 261 career games for the Mallards and is closing in on Rick Emmett (264) and eighth place in team history...Vladimir Nikiforov has 293 career points.

Head to Head

The Mallards have gone 4-1-0 against the IceMen this season. The Mallards improved to 4-0-0 in Evansville by winning 5-4 at the Ford Center Wednesday night. All-time the Mallards have gone 13-9-0 against the IceMen overall and 9-6-0 in Evansville. The two teams met 16 times in the CHL in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Jake Baker signed a professional tryout agreement with Manitoba (AHL) Friday...Raphael Bussieres has missed the Mallards' last three games (upper body).
