Komets Beat up Aces 8-2 Saturday

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Mason Baptista had a hat trick, Trevor Cheek scored twice and the Fort Wayne Komets dominated the Alaska Aces 8-2 Saturday at the Sullivan Arena.

The Komets win kept the Aces from sweeping the three-game series. Alaska won in overtime Wednesday and in a shootout Friday.

Fort Wayne's scoring started early and ended late. The Komets took a 4-1 first period lead on goals by former UAA winger Paul Crowder, Jordan Southern and two from Baptista. Alaska's Christian Finch scored his team' goal, his second professional tally.

In the second period, Jamie Schaafsma and Baptista found the back of the net...Baptista's first professional hat trick.

In the third period, Fort Wayne's Trevor Cheek scored twice before Alaska's Ben Lake closed out the scoring with his 6th goal of the season.

The game featured 7 fighting majors, a boarding major, and 6 roughing minors among other penalties.

The Komet's Pat Nagle was rarely tested in registering 21 saves for the win. Alaska's Jacob DeSerres knocked aside 26 Fort Wayne shots.

Alaska now goes on the road to Wichita Tuesday and Wednesday, and plays at Allen Friday.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena ice on Thursday, March 27 against Rapid City.
