Gameday: Adirondack vs. Manchester
December 12, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup is the third of the season between Adirondack and Manchester, with the Thunder claiming both games in a back-to-back on October 24 and 25. In similar fashion, the teams will meet again tomorrow in Manchester for a Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m. The Thunder are coming off of their first home defeat of the season last evening, as they were taken down 6-1 by the visiting Norfolk Admirals, who netted five unanswered goals in the second and third periods to calm the Thunder.
CLEAR AS DANA: Dana Fraser collected the lone Thunder goal last evening, as he redirected home a Jeff Silengo shot from the top of the right circle, which initially knotted the score at one midway through the second period. The goal for Fraser is his third of the season and also his third point over the Thunder's last four games.
HELPING HAND: Forward Jeff Silengo collected his first assist of the season on Fraser's goal and retained his point-per-game pace with five points (4-1-5) through five games played. Silengo, who was originally credited with the goal last night, has now collected a point in four of five games he's appeared in this season, including at least one tally in each of his first three games played.
KEN HE BOUNCE BACK AGAIN?: Goaltender Ken Appleby allowed four or more goals for just the third time this season in last night's defeat and he responded with a bounce-back performance in each of the two previous occasions. After a 5-4 win at Brampton in October, Appleby turned aside 37-of-39 shots the following night in a 4-2 win over Manchester. Recently, Appleby recorded a shutout over Brampton on December 3 after he allowed four goals plus a shootout goal in his previous start, a 5-4 shootout loss to Elmira. Collectively, Appleby has a .971 save percentage (66 saves on 68 shots) after allowing four or more goals in the start prior this season.
SQUAD GOALS: The Thunder and Monarchs square off as two of the highest offenses in the ECHL, as Adirondack ranks fourth overall in the league in goals per game, averaging 3.28, while the Monarchs are tied for second with 76 total goals. Adirondack has yet to have any players hit the double digit mark in goals scored but they have five players who have scored at least five. Manchester is led by forward Zach Larraza, who leads all ECHL rookies with 11 goals.
FAMILIAR FACE: The Civic Center may see a familiar face between the pipes as goaltender Doug Carr is currently on the Manchester Monarchs roster. Carr appeared in 13 games with the Adirondack Flames last season, where he amassed a 4-3 record. Carr had previously been with the Albany Devils for much of the 2015-16 season, where he appeared in three games. In two ECHL contests this season with Manchester, the Hanover, MA native is 1-0 with a 1.92 GAA and a .934 save percentage.
