Evansville IceMen News Release
CINCINNATI, OH - The Evansville IceMen and Cincinnati Cyclones combined for ten goals for the second straight night Saturday, but unlike Friday's 7-3 IceMen win, this one was much tighter as the Cyclones snuck out a 6-4 victory at US Bank Arena.
Cincinnati jumped out to the first lead, when Jack Downing fired a wrist shot from high in the slot over the glove of IceMen goaltender Matt Zenzola at 8:52. Alex Wideman tied to game for Evansville at 9:57 when Troy Rutkowski picked off a Cyclones clearing attempt and set up Wideman in the right circle. The rookie forward snapped a shot past Brandon Whitney to tie the game 1-1.
Late in the frame, Downing flipped a backhander on goal from the corner and Zenzola kicked out the rebound. Cyclones forward Andrew Yogan buried the second attempt with 2:48 left in the period to give Cincinnati its second lead.
Daultan Leveille tied the game at 2-2 just 16 seconds into the second period when he snuck a wrist shot inside the post for his 12th goal of the season. Again, Cincinnati had an answer, as Seth Ambroz scored his first professional goal when Yogan set him up in the slot.
Evansville struck back quickly on its first power play, when Nathan Moon scored his second goal in as many games on a one-timer from the left circle. But the Cyclones finished the high-scoring second period with their fourth go-ahead goal, when Yogan snuck behind the IceMen defense and tapped a one-timer past Zenzola for his second tally of the night.
Tyson Fawcett blasted a one-timer into the top shelf early in the third period on a 5-on-3 power play for his 12th of the year to tie to score 4-4. The Cyclones, however, fired back again when Brandon Gracel put Cincinnati in front for good with 13:45 to play and Joe Wilson added an insurance goal late.
Zenzola suffered his first ECHL loss with a 22-save performance, and Whitney stopped 21 shots for his fifth win of the season. The next time the two teams meet will be December 26 at 7:15pm at the Ford Center in Evansville.
The IceMen continue on to Fort Wayne Sunday for a 5pm EST showdown with the Komets. Catch all the action on www.evansvilleicemen.com or ECHL TV, or head over to Bar Louie in Evansville to view the action at the official headquarters for IceMen away games.
The next time the IceMen are at home is Wednesday, when Evansville hosts the Atlanta Gladiators for the only time this season. Game time is set for 6:15pm and college students can purchase discounted tickets by presenting their student I.D. at the Ford Center Ticket Office.
