Komets Play Grinch with 3-2 Win on Teddy Bear Toss Night
December 12, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
Alex Lavoie sent stuffed animals flying just 5:20 into the first Teddy Bear Toss in Indianapolis hockey history, but the Fort Wayne Komets spoiled the party with a 3-2 win at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday night.
Lavoie netted his eighth goal of the year from Dylan Clarke and Reed Seckel, who posted his first professional point with that assist.
Fort Wayne (11-8-1-0) would score twice before the end of the frame to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes thanks in part to a 19-7 shot advantage.
The Fuel (10-12-2-0) were able to wrangle the momentum away from the Komets in the second period, firing 14 shots on Spencer Martin (31 saves) but he held the fort and kept the Komets in the lead through two periods with several spectacular stops.
Brett Perlini drove a dagger into the Fuel hopes at 8:50 when he made it 3-1, but Indy wasn't done yet. Clarke would tip a Kevin Quick wrist shot past Martin to make it 3-2 with 4:15 left in the third.
Despite pulling Shane Owen (28 saves) for the extra attacker in the final minute, the Fuel could not find the equalizer.
Indy will now head out for three straight on the road starting Wednesday morning in Toledo against the Walleye at 10:35 am. The Morellis Cleaners Pre-game Show starts 15 minutes before every puck drop on CBS Sports 1430.
