Brampton Beast News Release

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN - The Kalamazoo Wings scored two goals in the opening three minutes and weathered a tough comeback attempt from the Brampton Beast, but the K-Wings held on to defeat the Beast 3-1 from the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on Saturday night.

Jeff Brown scored the lone goal for the Beast, while Trevor Cann and Andy Iles shared goaltending duties for Brampton.

David Gilbert scored his third power play goal in two games this weekend to give the K-Wings an early 1-0 lead just 1:46 into the game.

Lane Scheidl gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 lead less than a minute later, ending Cann's night after allowing two goals on just three shots in 2:33 of playing time.

Andy Iles entered the game in relief and was rock solid between the pipes for the Beast until Ludwig Blomstrand made it a 3-0 game at 12:06.

Following the end of a heated first period, the Beast settled down in the second frame and played better at both the offensive and defensive ends.

The Beast emerged a more energetic team in the second period and they were rewarded for their tenacity. Jeff Brown got the Beast on the board at 14:33, sending a big slap shot on goal from the right wing circle. He found some room between the pads of Kalamazoo starting goaltender Joel Martin to cut the deficit to two.

The Beast came out flying in the third period and controlled play throughout the final frame. Jeff Brown almost had his second of the night near the midway point of the third as he received a perfect pass on a two-on one but Martin flashed the leather to keep the potent Beast offense at bay.

The Beast got better with every period they played and outshot the Wings 11-5 in the second period and 16-5 in the third period but goaltender Martin was up to the task for the second straight night and made 37 saves to hold the Beast offense at bay.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Ludwig Blomstrand 2) Joel Martin 1) Lane Scheidl.

The Beast are back in action at the Powerade Centre tomorrow afternoon as they host the Norfolk Admirals for the first time ever. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25. Trial Packs for the 2015-16 season are also available starting at $39.99 that include three game tickets.
