Last Game:
The Storm took a 7-3 decision in Saginaw to close out the month of September last Saturday, in what was each club's most recent contest. Ethan Miedema (2G-1A) and Carter Stevens (1G-2A) each enjoyed three-point nights in the win, while goaltender Zachary Jovanaovski made 28 saves. Saginaw's Egor Barabanov had a goal and an assist to slot himself at the top of the OHL with nine points (3G-6A) as the calendar flipped to October.
This Season:
Both the Spirit and the Storm have seen mixed results out of the gate in 2025-2026. Saturday's loss was Saginaw's first to come in regulation, ending their run of points in three straight games to begin the season. For Guelph, the victory served as a righting of the ship after a 6-2 loss to Barrie and a 7-1 loss to Oshawa.
After tonight's game, Saginaw and Guelph won't meet again until December 5th at the Sleeman Centre. The four-game season series concludes February 22nd in Saginaw.
Players to Watch:
The Spirit continue to be led in scoring by free agent signing Egor Barabanov, who has found points in each of his first four OHL contests. Barabanov's nine points currently rank second in the OHL behind the Soo's Jordan Charron (10P). Second-year Spirit defenseman Graydon Jones is off to a productive start from Saginaw's blue line, with 1G-2A-3P in his first four games. Jones had three assists in his last trip to the Sleeman Centre, a thrilling 10-7 victory on February 8th. Overage forward Nic Sima has been a driving force for the Spirit in his first two games back from Columbus Blue Jackets camp. He has yet to find the score sheet, but has seven shots and dropped the gloves with Guelph's Rowan Topp last Saturday night.
Guelph's captain, Charlie Paquette, found his first two points of the season against the Spirit in the form of two assists. He finished last season with a career-best 70 points (37G-33A) in 68 games, earning a seventh-round selection from the Dallas Stars in his second year of NHL Draft eligibility. Though held off the score sheet in the Storm's last game, Hunter McKenzie's four goals continue to lead the team. Former Buffalo Sabres draft pick Ethan Miedema leads the Storm in points with five (3G-2A) in four contests.
