Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Attack headed down to Kitchener for a Friday night face off against the Rangers. Owen Sound would eventually fall victim to a 4-3 loss ending their 4-0 winning streak with the Windsor Spitfires and Ottawa 67's. Stepping up to the plate for the Attack was forward Pierce Mbuyi, making two power play goals for the Attack during the first and second periods. The Rangers had Christian Humphreys with two goals, and Luca Romano and Cameron Arquette both with a goal each. In net for the Attack was LA Kings draft prospect Carter George making 29 saves of 33 shots on net.
A slow start to the first period for the Attack led to an early goal by the Rangers. With a jarring start to the game, Owen Sound quickly had to regroup to plan their next steps and best execution scenarios. Midway throughout the period, the Attack gained possession of the puck at the blue line. Passing through the chain of John Banks, to Jacob Therrien to Tristan Delisle to Harry Nansi behind the goalie crease would come to Pierce Mbuyi. Mbuyi in quick action would bury the puck in the Rangers' net bringing the Attack their tying goal needed on an Attack Power Play. Kitchener would answer back with two additional goals late in the first pulling them ahead 3-1 over the Attack.
Resetting for the second period was crucial for the Attack. Stabilizing their efforts to defence, the Attack managed to hold strong during the first half of the period. A crack in the defences would be found by Rangers' Christian Humphreys, putting Kitchener up 3-1 over Owen Sound. spectators woudl witness a series of power struggles from both teams in multiple calls of penalties and power plays swaying play from one end of the ice to the other. Finally, a break in the pattern for Owen Sound. Making his second power play goal, Mbuyi in similar fashion to the first period would set uup right outside the Rangers' net. Nansi would feed the puck to Mbuyi from the left corner of the net, with Mbuyi bypassing Rangers' goaltender Christian Kirsch.
Jacob Therrien with a power play goal midway through the third period would bring the Attack within one point of tying the game. With a late period power play, the Attack looked to find that final piece to bring the game to overtime. In a last ditch effort, Owen Sound pulled goaltender Carter George, opening Owen Sound's forces to 6 men on the Attack. The buzzer would sound ending the game in 4-3 Rangers.
The Bears now head back to home ice for their one of two games against the Saginaw Spirit this season. Puck is set to drop at 4PM at the Bayshore. Sunday Oct. 5 the Attack will battle against the Windsor Spitfires for a 2PM matinée at the Bayshore.
