Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Kingston, ON - The Kingston Frontenacs hosted their East Division rivals in the Oshawa Generals for the first time in the young OHL season on Friday night at Slush Puppie Place.

The Frontenacs head into tonight looking for their first win on home ice, but they've already defeated the Generals this season. In Oshawa's home opener two weekends ago, the Frontenacs staged an epic third period comeback as they were down 2-1 with around ten minutes to play but they rallied back to win 5-2. The black and gold would look for the same result on Friday night to extend the season series to 2-0 in favour of the Fronts.

The Frontenacs started strong, but it was the Generals who would get on the board first. The towering Brooks Rogowski collected the puck in the neutral zone and flew through the Kingston defense and put the puck over the left shoulder of Gavin Betts to open the scoring. Just under 40 seconds after Rogowski opened the scoring, Maleek McGowan would respond for the black and gold. Tyler Hopkins won an offensive zone faceoff back to McGowan who drove the net hard, collected his own rebound and tied the game up at a goal a side.

The Frontenacs would take over the pace of play after tying up the game, with a pair of first career goals before the first came to a close. Matthew Frost gave the Frontenacs the lead with a wrist shot into the top corner and 2025 9th overall pick Aleks Kulemin would do the same to make it 3-1 heading into the second.

Oshawa would get a goal back from Jaden Lobo just over a minute into the second period, but Kingston's Tomas Pobezal would get it right back on a nice backhand in tight just after a Kingston powerplay came to an end for his second of the season.

In the third, the black and gold shut it down and played exceptional defence in front of Gavin Betts. The Frontenacs only allowed five shots in the final frame and even added an insurance goal off the stick of Robin Kuzma; sealing the 5-2 victory.

The Frontenacs are back in action on Sunday afternoon back on home ice at Slush Puppie Place as they take on the Erie Otters. The puck drops on that contest at 2:05PM.
