Oshawa, On. - In their first of three games this weekend, the Oshawa Generals did not start off the way they had hoped to, dropping 5-2 to the Kingston Frontenacs.

Following a quiet first nine minutes of the game, Brooks Rogowski would open the scoring with his first of the year. After building up speed in the neutral zone with the Gens attacking up ice, Rogowski took a rink-wide pass from Anthony Timmerman, split the Kingston defenders and roofed it over the glove of Gavin Betts.

The Generals seemed to be off to another good start against Kingston, but just 38 seconds later off a defensive zone face-off, defender Maleek McGowan rumbled his way to the Oshawa net, followed up on his own rebound and put it upstairs on Jaden Cholette to tie it right back up.

McGowan's first of the season seemed to spark the Frontenacs as they added another just minutes later. After the puck bounced off a couple of Generals near their blue line, it came right to Aleks Kulemin who set up Matthew Frost wide open in the slot and he snapped it bar down on Cholette's glove side for his first in the OHL.

Later in the first, after killing of an Oshawa power play, Kingston would add to their lead thanks to Kulemin taking a pass from Vann Williamson on a slight rush into the zone and wiring it from the slot high blocker. It was Kulemin's second point of the period and his first OHL tally.

With Oshawa trailing by two on the back of three unanswered to finish the first, they made quick work cutting into the deficit to start the second. An extended shift in the Kingston end led to a backhander from Jalen Lobo just outside the crease that snuck through the wickets of Betts to make it 3-2.

Getting life to start the middle period, the Generals would be penalized for the first time, and Kingston would get their two-goal lead back. Just after Simon Wang stepped out of the box, the Frontenacs continued the cycle and Kulemin from the hashmarks fed Tomas Pobezal and he backhanded the bouncing puck over Cholette's blocker.

With Kingston's fourth goal, Cholette's night would end early as Mario Pouliot attempted to spark his club by swapping goaltenders. Isaac Gravelle would make his second appearance for Oshawa this season before the mid-way mark of the second.

Gravelle would get the Generals to the second intermission still trailing by two after nine saves since taking over with 8:15 remaining in the middle frame.

Needing two to tie in the third, Oshawa did not get much offense going with just five shots generated in the final frame. Soon enough, Kingston would get their fifth with Robin Kuzma gaining the zone and ripping another hard shot glove side, the first and only one that got passed Gravelle.

Kulemin and McGowan led the scoring surge for the Frontenacs in their second victory over Oshawa in two weeks. Betts, who made 25 saves in his previous start against the Generals, was solid once again for Kingston, stopping 21 of 23 shots.

Oshawa will look for a better result tomorrow night as they go right back at it against the Colts in Barrie at 7:30 pm. The Gens return home the day after for a clash with the Saginaw Spirit back at the TTC. For single-game tickets for Sunday's game, click here.
