Windsor Spitfires News Release

Windsor, ON - The Windsor Spitfires delivered a statement performance on Thursday night at the WFCU Centre, cruising to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Niagara IceDogs in front of their home fans.

Windsor set the tone early and never looked back, outshooting Niagara 38-9 and scoring in every period en route to their most dominant win of the young season.

The power play ignited the offense just four minutes into the first period when Cole Davis buried his fifth of the season from Joey Costanzo and Caden Harvey to open the scoring. Later in the frame, Jean-Christoph Lemieux doubled the lead on another man advantage, converting a feed from AJ Spellacy and Carson Woodall at 14:55 to give the Spitfires a 2-0 edge after 20 minutes.

Windsor blew the game wide open in the second period with three goals in just over ten minutes. Wyatt Kennedy struck first at 8:13, notching his first of the season off a setup from Liam Greentree and Anthony Cristoforo. Just 34 seconds later, Beksultan Makysh added his sixth of the year, finishing a slick passing play from Kennedy and Cristoforo.

Before the period was out, Harvey got in on the scoring himself, tapping home his first of his OHL career at 18:38 from Spellacy and Woodall to make it 5-0.

Ethan Belchetz capped the night with a third-period marker at 9:30, wiring home his third of the campaign off Cristoforo's third assist of the evening.

Cristoforo was named First Star after a standout three-assist, +4 performance from the blue line. Kennedy (1G, 1A, +3) earned Second Star honours, while Makysh (1G, 1A) was named Third Star.

On the defensive side, Windsor was air-tight, killing off all four Niagara power plays and limiting the IceDogs to just nine shots on goal. Joey Costanzo turned aside each one to record the shutout.

The win improves Windsor's record to 6-0-0, as they continue to build momentum early in the season. The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday October 4th as they travel to Brantford to face the Bulldogs. Puck drop is at 4:00pm.
