LAST TIME OUT: The Firebirds fell in a 4-0 hole and twice brought themselves within a pair but were eventually beaten by the Sarnia Sting, 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. SLOW STARTING KNIGHTS: London has stumbled out of the gates during its Memorial Cup title defense. The Knights are the only team in the Western Conference yet to win a game as they enter Friday's action at 0-2-2-0. Starting slow is not out of the ordinary for London as they were 1-3-0-0 through four games in the 2024-25 season and 2-2-0-0 in 2023-24. The Knights went on to win the OHL championship in each of those two seasons.

PRODUCTION FROM FIRST TIMERS: New faces have populated the scorers sheet for the Firebirds often thus far this season. Chase Hull, in his first OHL action after playing the last two seasons in the BHCL, now has three goals in three games and rookie forward Charlie Murata has three assists in three games. Hull is tied for the team lead in goals and Murata is tied for the lead in assists.

BACK FROM THE BIG APPLE: Fourth-year Firebirds forward Nathan Aspinall has been returned from his training camp stint with the New York Rangers and is expected to make his season debut on Friday night. Aspinall, a fifth-round selection of the Rangers in the 2024 NHL Draft, appeared in one preseason game for New York. Over 62 games for Flint in the 2024-25 season he had 17 goals and 30 assists.

LAST SEASON: The Firebirds went 1-3-0-0 against the Knights in the 2024-25 season, including a 1-1-0-0 mark on the road. Flint's win against London was a 7-4 decision in the first game of the season.

ODDS AND ENDS: The Firebirds have been outscored, 9-3 in first periods thus far this season. Flint has an even goal differential outside of the first period...Matthew Wang now has two multi-point games in three games played and leads the Firebirds with five points (2 G, 3 A)...Flint's next four games will each be played at home.

UP NEXT: Flint will return home on Saturday night to face the Sarnia Sting for the second time in the span of six days. Puck drop at the Dort Financial Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
