MONDAY FINALE: The Louisville Bats finish up a 7-game homestand and 4-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens on Memorial Day at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats secured a much-needed win on Sunday night, defeating the Hens by a 7-5 score. Louisville's offense, which recorded 15 hits in the win, looks to keep it going with right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez set to pitch for the Bats.
AGAINST TOLEDO: With a 7-5 win on Sunday evening, the Bats held onto their narrow lead in the all-time series, with a 214-212 record against Toledo in 426 matchups dating back to 1988. Rob Refsnyder upheld his reputation as a Hen hunter, recording yet another multi-hit game, now batting .458 (11-for-24) in 6 games against Toledo this season. Brian O'Grady (.395 against Toledo) and Christian Colon (.375) also recorded multi-hit games and continued their hot starts against the Mud Hens.
CC FOR 3 5!: Third baseman Christian Colon went 5-for-5 with a double, home run and 3 RBI in Sunday's victory, the second 5-hit game for a Bats player this season after Josh VanMeter accomplished the feat on April 26 vs. Norfolk. For Colon, it's his first 5-hit game in 898 career games between the minors and Majors. In the process, the infielder also extended his season-high hitting streak to 7 games.
STILL REFFIN': Outfielder Rob Refsnyder went 2-for-5 on Sunday, his fourth straight multi-hit game. He joins Nick Longhi as the only Louisville players this season with 4 consecutive multi-hit games, with Longhi doing it from May 9-12. Refsnyder not only carries an active 7-game hitting streak, but has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games and reached base in each of his last 12.
GIVE US ALL THE STREAKS: Colon and Refsnyder both carry active 7-game hitting streaks into play Monday, with the team-high this season being Refsnyder's 8-game hit streak from April 23-30. Brian O'Grady (5 games), Aristides Aquino (4) and Blake Trahan (4) all carry their own individual 2019-high hitting streaks into play today as well.
GAME #50: Louisville plays its 50th game of the 2019 season today, owning a 19-30 record. Last season, LOU was 17-33 after wrapping up its 50th game on May 31, an 5-4 home win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 11 innings.
ALEX DANGER POWERS: Right-hander Alex Powers pitched in his third game for Louisville since being transferred from Class AA Chattanooga, recording his first career Triple-A save after coming into the ninth with one out. Powers is the third pitcher to record a save for the Bats this season, joining Anthony Bass (9) and Matt Bowman (1).
YOU'VE GOT TO KNOW WHEN TO HOLD 'EM: Louisville relievers Sal Romano, Ian Krol and Jimmy Herget all recorded holds in yesterday's win, setting up Powers for his first Triple-A save. The Bats are currently tied for second in the league with 23 holds, trailing only Indianapolis' 26 holds as a team. The aforementioned trio of Louisville relievers make up three of the top four in the league leaders for holds.
AGENT CODY REED: Left-hander Cody Reed was called up to the Reds today as Cincinnati's 26th man for their doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday. In 18 games with Louisville this season, Reed is 1-2 with a 2.61 ERA (6er/20.2ip) with 8 walks and 25 strikeouts.
MEMORIAL DAY: The Bats have won just one of their last 6 Memorial Day matchups since 2013, winning in 2016 by a 3-2 score over the Toledo Mud Hens. Louisville has been at home for 5 of the last 6 Memorial Days, playing at Lehigh Valley in 2017. Last season, LOU lost at home against Durham by 5-1 in a Brandon Finnegan start. In 2013, the Bats lost a wild 13-11 game to the Columbus Clippers in 12 innings.
