
Eshelman dazzles in series split with Buffalo

(Allentown, Pa) - Tom Eshelman (1-0) set the tone for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (26-21) in their 5-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons (20-26) on Monday afternoon. He pitched seven shutout innings and only gave up four hits, all singles.
The Pigs got after Bisons starter Conor Fisk, who pitched just three innings. Ali Castillo hit an RBI single off Fisk in the bottom of the second inning to give Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead. Andrew Romine hit an RBI double and Mitch Walding brought in a run on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third inning to give Lehigh Valley a 3-0 lead.
Rob Brantly powered his second home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning against Zack Jackson to give the IronPigs a 4-0 lead. The Pigs got another run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Castillo scored on a fielder's choice, hit into by Malquin Canelo.
Outside of the four this Eshelman gave up, he issued one walk and recorded seven strikeouts. Austin Davis entered the game to pitch in relief of Eshelman in the top of the eighth inning. He pitched two scoreless innings to close out the ballgame for the IronPigs.
Lehigh Valley begins an eight-day road trip starting in Pawtucket on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
