Punch Out Pile Up: Last night five Missions pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts to match a season-high, which was first set in Friday's series-opener. The 34 strikeouts in a two-game span are the most since Missions pitchers fanned 36 batters from May 23-24, 2017 against Double-A Tulsa. On May 23, 2017 San Antonio fanned 24 drillers in a 14-inning game and followed that up with a 12-strikeout performance on May 24.
Extra! Extra!: For the second consective night, the Missions needed extra innings to defeat the Fresno Grizzlies. The Missions are now 5-2 in those games. It has been almost exactly one year since the Missions played back-to-back extra-inning games. On August 3-4, 2018 they went to extras against Double-A Midland.
First of the Year: Missions starter Zack Brown turned in one of his best starts in the 2019 season last night. In six innings, Brown struck out seven batters, walked one, allowed four hits, and didn't allow a run to score. This was the first scoreless outing for Brown this season and his first since August 16, 2018 in an appearance with the AZL Brewers. His seven strikeouts were tied for his season-high.
Missions Debut: After being acquired at the deadline in two seperate deals, relievers Ray Black and Jake Faria made their Missions debuts last night. They combined for two scoreless innings, no hits, no runs, and two strikeouts.
Career Highlight for Perez: Missions utility man Hernán Pérez went 1-for-5 in last night's game which gave him 800 career MiLB hits. His lone hit was his walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning.
