From the Notes
Joe Palumbo: 24-year-old Joe Palumbo starts for the Sounds tonight. The left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 3 starts with Nashville. Palumbo was reinstated from the 7-day injured list earlier today and is making his first appearance since July 14 when he tossed 4.0 innings against the New Orleans Baby Cakes. The New York native has spent the majority of his 2019 season at Double-A Frisco where he went 0-0 with a 3.19 ERA in 11 games (10 starts). He covered 53.2 innings and has allowed 43 hits and 25 walks to go along with 69 strikeouts. Palumbo has made three appearances (two starts) for Texas, his last appearance coming in relief on July 7 at Minnesota. He threw 3.0 shutout innings in the 4-1, 11-inning win over the Twins. Overall, Palumbo is 0-1 with an 11.00 ERA with the Rangers. He's currently listed as the #6 Rangers prospect by MLB Pipeline. The Rangers drafted him in the 30th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of St. John the Baptist (NY) High School.
Granite in the 2 Spot: Outfielder Zack Granite will hit in the second spot in the lineup for the first time this season. He has started in the leadoff spot 71 times and in the 9-spot 21 times. Granite is hitting .283 (90-for-318) when batting first and .292 (21-for-72) when batting ninth. Andy Ibáñez will bat leadoff tonight, the third time he has done so in 2019. He is 3-for-8 with a double and home run when hitting first.
23/23 Wins: The Sounds have 46 wins on the season with 23 coming at home and 23 coming on the road. While playing near .500 ball on the road at 23-27, the Sounds are only 23-37 at home, one of the worst home records in the Pacific Coast League. Only San Antonio (61) and Reno (60) have played more home games than Nashville.
Another 2-Hit, 2-RBI Game: Infielder Matt Davidson had a 2-hit, 2-RBI game in last night's loss highlighted by his 25th home run of the season. It was the ninth time this year Davidson has collected at least two hits + at least two RBI in the same game. Davidson is first on the team with 20 multi-RBI games and third on the squad with 23 multi-hit games.
Guzmán Finding his Groove: First Baseman Ronald Guzmán is starting to hit with Nashville after a slow start. In his first two games with the Sounds on July 26 and 27, he was just 1-for-6 with 3 strikeouts. Since then he has hit safely in five straight games, boosting his average from .167 to .240. Through seven games with Nashville, Guzmán has scored 6 runs and has drawn 5 walks.
