Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - Infielder Eric Filia lifted his first Triple-A home run and accounted for more than half of Tacoma's RBI as the Rainiers lost their second in-a-row against the Iowa Cubs on Saturday at Cheney Stadium, 11-7.
With Tacoma (51-61) down five in the bottom of the fourth, Filia belted his two-run blast to right field, scoring Jordan Pacheco to narrow the deficit, 6-3.
After the Cubs (60-52) extended their lead by one in the top of fifth, back-to-back doubles by Filia and John Andreoli kept Tacoma close, 7-5.
Pacheco drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the first that scored Tim Lopes and cut into an early deficit, 2-1. The infielder/catcher went 3-for-5 with two runs and a double, extending his season-long hitting streak to 13 games, going 22-for-49 over that span (.449).
Right-hander Darren McCaughan (0-4) made his fourth start with the Rainiers since his promotion from Double-A Arkansas on July 16. The 23-year-old was charged with six runs across the first three frames before Darin Gillies took over in the fourth.
Gillies tossed two innings of one-run baseball, allowing only two hits and Major League rehabber Brandon Brennan took over on the mound in the sixth, throwing a scoreless frame with a pair of punchouts.
David McKay started the sixth and surrendered three runs before handing the ball to Matt Festa, who allowed an inherited runner to score. The right-hander spun two innings of scoreless ball and collected three strikeouts.
Tacoma loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth before Iowa outfielder Donnie Dewees took the mound and allowed a Kelby Tomlinson single to score Jaycob Brugman. Miller pushed Andreoli through on a walk but Kevin Santa hit a hard liner to third to end the game with the bases loaded.
Tacoma will look for their first win of the series against the I-Cubs in a Sunday matinee at Cheney Stadium. The Rainiers will send southpaw Anthony Misiewicz (5-6, 6.99) to the mound to face Iowa right-hander Tyson Miller (1-1, 11.49) for a 1:35 p.m. start. Mike Curto will have full coverage on South Sound Talk 850 with audio streaming available on the Tacoma Rainiers TuneIn Radio Network.
