Bakersfield Condors News Release

Long Beach, Calif. - Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 42 shots for his third shutout and Kevin St. Jacques scored twice as the Bakersfield Condors rolled up a 5- 0 win over the Long Beach Ice Dogs at the Long Beach Arena on Friday night.

The Condors started early with Todd Alexander's 11th goal of the season just 27 seconds in to make it 1-0. The first period had good pace, with both teams getting their chances. Yutaka Fukufuji protected the lead with a stop on a partial breakaway by NHLer Bill Lindsay late in the first. Minutes later, the Condors made it 2-0 with Kevin St. Jacques' 10th goal of the campaign. The veteran center had missed the last three games for Bakersfield.

St. Jacques added his second of the game during the second period, picking up a loose puck and lifting a backhander to the top shelf for the only goal of the middle frame. Fukufuji stopped 19 shots in the second period and 31 through 40 minutes.

Brett Lutes made it 4-0 with a power play goal 2:25 into the final period and Guy Dupuis closed the scoring with his eighth of the season with under 2:00 remaining in the contest. Fukufuji stopped 11 more shots in the third period for his third shutout of the season. The Condors pulled within three points of idle Alaska for second place in the division and five points of Long Beach with the win.

The Condors are anticipating a large crowd as they return to town on Saturday against the San Diego Gulls. That night marks the triumphant return of everyone's favorite spongiform, SpongeBob Squarepants. SpongeBob appears courtesy of Bright House Networks, Real Rock 93.1 and Subway. That game also will be televised live on Bright House Networks, Cable Ch. 21.
